The Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University revealed their annual rankings of the top 500 Universities in the world and for the second year in a row, UC San Diego came in at number 15. Researches evaluated over 1,200 universities. Rankings are based on per capita academic performance, number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Field Medals, and number of papers published in major citation indices. UC San Diego also ranked extremely well in the specific subject categories, taking 12th in their engineering program, 13th in chemistry, and 14th in computer science. Other notable California schools who placed in the top 20 overall were Stanford ranking in at #2, UC Berkley at #4, California Institute of Technology at #6, UCLA at #12, and UC San Francisco at #18. For the 10th year in a row, Harvard took the top spot.
