We're not surprised, just stoked. National Geographic released its top 20 best surf towns around the globe and Encinitas made the cut! The article give a bio on each of the surf towns plus when to go, where to learn, where to eat, drink, stay and play, plus a local tip. Categories seem to have been based on number of places to surf, waves for all levels and abilities, beauty and enjoyability of the town, and friendliness of the locals. National Geographic refers to Encinitas as, 'American beach culture with a refreshing Mexican twist,' and, 'an easygoing mix of West Coast counterculture—from skaters and snowboarders to surfers—and New Age spiritualists.' Santa Cruz was the only other town in California that made the list. There are 3 other cities from the mainland: Montauk, New York; Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina and New Smyrna Beach, Florida; and 2 from Hawaii: Hanalei, Kauai and Paia, Maui.
