The Encinitas City Council voted unanimously this week to approve funding for Moonlight Beach improvements and for the Encinitas Community Park. Construction will begin next month on the 44-acre site south of Santa Fe Drive and west of I-5. The park will feature a soccer field, multi-use athletic fields, a skate park, a playground, a competition pool, a dog park, formal gardens, a teen center, picnic area, pavilion with ocean views, restroom facilities and 5 parking lots. This will be the first skateboard park in Encinitas. The park should be open by the end of next year. Construction at Moonlight Beach will begin in September and include an expansion of the recreation area, concession buildings, new restrooms and a garage that will be a public overlook and storage space for lifeguards.
