The San Dieguito Heritage Museum will host its 4th annual Lima Bean Faire on September 29th from noon to 4pm with the Battle of the Beans highlighting the festivities. Lima beans were a very important crop to the early Encinitas pioneers because they grow well in moist climates. In past years, chefs were only allowed to use Lima Beans in the cook-off. This year, any and all beans are allowed. There are amateur and professional divisions with 4 categories in each: Savory Soup/Entree, Amazing Appetizer, Simply Salad, and Anything & Everything, plus a People's Choice Award. Prize money and trophies will be given to the winners by celebrity judges. If cooking isn't your thing, you can taste and judge these wonderful creations. $5 gets you 3 tastings and $15 gets you unlimited. All proceeds go to San Dieguito Heritage Museum projects. There will also be live bluegrass music, raffle prizes, bake sales, and children's activities. The San Dieguito Heritage Museum is located at 450 Quail Gardens Drive.
